THE GOATS OF THE RAHALA

TODRA GORGES, TINGHIR

These goats belong to the "Rahala" (in Arabic it means the traveler, the wanderer, the changer of place). They are a group of Berber nomads who do not live all the time in the desert. Instead they live half a year in the desert and half a year in the caves of the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, where they take refuge during the winter.

In Todra Gorges (Tinghir), you can see the Rahala people coming down from the top of the mountains to herd their goats, making the idyllic place even more beautiful.
